Tucked into the folds of the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen is Morocco’s most photographed city and every photo still fails to capture how beautiful it really is. The entire medina is painted in shades of blue, from powder sky to deep cobalt, creating an almost surreal atmosphere of calm and beauty that draws travelers back again and again.

Places Worth Visiting:

The Blue Medina Old Town

The Blue Medina Old Town, Chefchaouen

Simply wandering the blue-washed streets, alleyways, and staircases of Chefchaouen’s medina is the main attraction. Every corner is a perfect photograph and a moment of genuine tranquility unlike anywhere else in Morocco.

Plaza Uta el-Hammam Central Medina, Chefchaouen

The heart of the old city  a beautiful square surrounded by cafés, the Grand Mosque, and the old kasbah. The perfect place to sit, sip mint tea, and watch Chefchaouen life unfold around you.

Spanish Mosque Jbel Meskina Hill

Spanish Mosque Jbel Meskina Hill, above Chefchaouen

A short hike above the medina rewards you with the most iconic view in northern Morocco  the entire blue city spread below against the green Rif mountains. Best visited at sunrise or golden hour.

Ras El Maa Waterfall Eastern edge of the Medina

A natural freshwater cascade right at the edge of the medina where local women traditionally wash clothes in the stream. A peaceful, refreshingly authentic corner of the city away from the tourist trail.

“Moroccan Gate made our honeymoon absolutely unforgettable. The desert camp, the private guide in Fes, the riad in Marrakech — every detail was perfect.”

Timothy O’Neil

I’ve travelled a lot but Morocco with a local team is on another level. They knew every hidden spot and made sure we experienced the real country, not just the tourist trail.”
